Jenny has been a professional basket maker and willow grower for 30 years. She grows the willow, to make the baskets, to sell directly to the public.
In 1985 she went on to do a one year apprenticeship with the very accomplished basket maker and willow grower, David Drew, sponsored by the Crafts Council. This was the stepping stone to her career as a prominent basket maker.
To retain a respect for the established traditions of basket making and willow growing is foremost in Jenny’s mind. The ultimate perfection of shape and the beauty of texture rely on thoroughly perceived ideas in the basket maker’s mind and on the skill to impress these on the natural material. Jenny’s approach is innovative and moves forward beyond the old patterns and boundaries, to make work that is living and for contemporary use. The variety and seasons within her lifestyle allow her to plant, harvest, create, educate and exhibit, passing on her knowledge and skills to an ever appreciative audience.
